Heli Helanummi-Cole

Dr. Heli Helanummi-Cole is a Lecturer in Entrepreneurship within Southampton Business School at the University of Southampton.
Heli holds a doctoral degree in management from the University of Oxford where she was a ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow prior to joining Southampton in 2020. Her doctoral research that explores post-redundancy entrepreneurship was sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council, Saïd Business School Foundation and Balliol College Oxford. Prior to commencing her doctoral studies, Heli held various management positions in high technology in the UK, Finland and Japan and acted as a board advisor for a London-based 3D printing company. She holds an MBA from London Business School and an MSc from the Tampere University of Technology in Finland.
Heli’s research interests include entrepreneurial systems, innovation, technology strategy and venture failure. Her research is motivated by the desire to understand the new ways in which works get organised. As such, she is interested in the platform economy, networked forms of organising and the role that these assume in labour policy. She regularly presents her work at global conferences.
At the Southampton Business School, Heli leads the postgraduate Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and New Business Venturing and the MBA Entrepreneurship and New Venture Design modules. She also teaches some of the undergraduate International Entrepreneurship module.
